ClientTransferProhibited — policy reminder

There are currently approximately 17,000 .nz domains with ClientTransferProhibited set.

As outlined in .nz Rules and IRS guide, for .nz, this setting is prohibited.

  • .nz Rules: 4.1.3. A Registrar must not decline or delay a Domain Name Holder’s request to transfer its domain name to another Registrar (by withholding the authorisation code or otherwise).

  • IRS Guide: clientTransferProhibited This status prevents Domains from being transferred and cannot be assigned to either Contacts or Hosts. For IRS, registrars are not permitted to set clientTransferProhibited status

Registry lock timeframe under review

We continue to review the design of our pending registry lock service. As a result, our release timeframe has not yet been set, but we are still targeting this year. We will provide a further update in our next newsletter.

In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding registry lock, don’t hesitate to contact Tim Johnson at timj@internetnz.net.nz or arrange to meet at the upcoming industry events.

New Domain Name Commissioner appointment

The Domain Name Commission and InternetNZ announced the appointment of Barbara Pearse as the new Domain Name Commissioner on 1 May.

Barbara joined the DNC with extensive leadership, governance and oversight experience across multiple industries, mainly regulated entities and financial services.

Meeting in person at NamesCon and ICANN

Our Tumuwhanake | General Manager Customer and Product Tim Johnson will attend NamesCon in Austin, TX, on 31 May - 3 June, and ICANN77 Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., US, on 12-15 June.

Send him an email at timj@internetnz.net.nz to arrange a coffee catchup.
