2025-04-03 Notice of .nz fixed wholesale fee change
Kia ora!
In accordance with clause 3.2 of the Connection Agreement, InternetNZ is providing you with Notice of an increase of the fixed wholesale fee of .nz domain names from $18.00 NZD to $22.00 NZD (circa 4% annualised increase). The change will come into effect on 1 July 2025 NZST.
The new wholesale fee will be applied to newly created and renewed domains.
While the .nz Rules enable the wholesale fee to be reviewed regularly, InternetNZ has not increased it since 2020.
The reasons for the price change are:
Sustained and significant increase of the costs over the last five years associated with our product infrastructure, resourcing and general operational expenses that can no longer be absorbed.
Work associated with the .nz Rules programme and environmental changes that will impose additional future costs related to critical infrastructure compliance, data protection and privacy compliance, and sustainability.
The temporary COVID-related growth trends have subsided, and there has been a return to low or no growth in the .nz register, similar to that seen in 2019.
The wholesale fee change has been approved by InternetNZ’s Council and was independently assessed by the Domain Name Commissioner.
While we are required to provide one month’s notice of a wholesale fee increase under the Connection Agreement, we are providing significantly more notice to give you and domain name holders an opportunity to lock in the current pricing and to assist you with planning.
Please do contact me with any questions about this fee increase.
