Billing ======= What is the cost price of NZ domains? ------------------------------------- All domains under .nz including both second-level (internetnz-example.nz) and third-level (internetnz-sample.co.nz) registrations have the same wholesale fee of $1.50 NZD per month. Why are some of my domains being automatically renewed for one month? --------------------------------------------------------------------- .nz domain names are automatically renewed (auto-renew) at the end of their registration period. The default value of an auto-renew is one month. A domain name has to be actively cancelled by the registrar and can only be cancelled upon request or where the registrant has not complied with their agreement with the registrar and cancellation is specified as a possible result. Under .nz policy the billing term for a domain will reset to the minimum term of one month after any Renew, Create or Transfer transactions are processed. This prevents domain names, which have originally been billed for a longer term, being automatically renewed for the same term before the registrar has determined the terms of the renewal, or even if a renewal is required. .. note:: If the registration is for more than one month the Registrar must renew the domain and identify the full billing term and ensure they pay the full amount to InternetNZ. From the .nz Operations and Procedures policy `The Billing Process `_: *"Registrars are obliged to disclose the billing term arranged between a Registrar and a Registrant to InternetNZ through the registration transaction, so they are billed for the same period that they have billed their Registrants, on an individual domain name basis."* | SRS API ~~~~~~~ For a domain auto-renew that is inside the 5-day renewal grace period, you can cancel the domain to roll back the auto-renew and then send an explict SRS :ref:`DomainUpdate` to renew the domain to the required term. For a domain auto-renew that is outside the 5-day renewal grace period, you cannot roll back the auto-renew. However you can send an explict SRS :ref:`DomainUpdate` to renew the domain to the remainder of the required term or cancel the domain to prevent further 1 month auto-renews. Under the SRS protocol, you can optionally set an auto-renew term for a domain in advance and the domain will be automatically renewed on the expiration date for the specified term. The following example will set the Term to 12 months, so the domain would auto-renew for 12-months at the end of the billed-until date: .. code-block:: xml internetnz-sample-renew3.co.nz | The following example will set the Term to zero ("0") to prevent an AutoRenewal, so the domain would not auto-renew. Registrars can use this option where they have received a specific instruction from the Registrant not to renew the domain name registration: .. code-block:: xml internetnz-sample-renew3.co.nz .. note:: As a reminder the Term will be reset to one month following any Renew, Create or Transfer transactions. | EPP API ~~~~~~~ Under our implementation of EPP all names will auto-renew for one month at the end of their registration period unless cancelled. If you would like to renew your domains for greater than one month please send an explicit EPP :ref:`renewal command ` before the end of the registration period. For a domain auto-renew that is inside the 5-day renewal grace period, you can cancel the domain to roll back the auto-renew and then send an explict EPP :ref:`renewal command ` to renew the domain to the required term. For a domain auto-renew that is outside the 5-day renewal grace period, you cannot roll back the auto-renew. However you can send an explict EPP :ref:`renewal command ` to renew the domain to the remainder of the required term or cancel the domain to prevent further 1 month auto-renews. .. note:: .nz has a 5-day renewal grace period during which time a renewal (including an auto renew) can be rolled-back. Can I reverse a Domain renewal ------------------------------ If the renewal transaction occurred within the Renewal Grace Period (i.e. within the last five days), you may Cancel the domain (which removes the renewal transaction) then immediately Uncancel to ensure the domain remains active in the zone file (See Note below). `SRS Billing Business Rules `_ .. note:: if the billed until date is less than the current date Uncancelling the domain will activate an auto renew on the domain to catch up billing, this can be overcome by doing a renewal transaction at the same time as the Uncancel transaction Why do I have to wait until the 6th of the month to receive my Invoice? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- We cannot deliver final invoices before the 6th day of the following month as the invoices may still change due to possible cancellation of domain names within their grace periods. For example a domain name registered/renewed on the 31st May can be cancelled during a 5 day grace period (lasts until 5th June in this example) which would undo the registration/renewal and remove the billing transaction from the system.
